Carlsbad National Park is in the Chihuahuan Desert of the Guadalupe Mountains. The caverns have gigantic subterranean chambers, fantastic cave formations, and extraordinary features. Watching the mass exodus of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats at dusk is a site to behold. For us, an even more impressive bat experience, is in the wee hours of the morning. Your ears are the first of your senses to experience the bats returning to the cavern.
